CWD Seminar Goes Swimmingly
Big thanks to biologist, Kirstyn Falck, for turning up and teaching some of our Region 8 members all about chronic wasting disease (CWD) and how to properly retrieve the lymph nodes and tonsils out of ungulates to submit for CWD testing. It was a really good hands-on learning experience!
A reminder that mandatory testing is required for deer, elk and moose harvested in the CWD management zone (currently MUs 4-1 to 4-8 and 4-20 to 4-25), however hunters across all regions of BC are encouraged to participate in the testing program. Samples for animals harvested in the CWD management zone must be submitted within the CWD management zone. For a great map of drop off locations, see the CWD sample drop off location map.
Hunters are also reminded that whole carcasses must not be transported out of the CWD management zone as this creates a high risk for disease transfer to other areas of the province.
For printable CWD sampling instructions with photos, see CWD Sampling Instructions for Hunters.
